"I create balance in my life by making time for work, family, and self-care."
Hello all.
This weekend was a little different. Juli and her youngest son, Henry, traveled to Twickenham to watch the rugby match between England and Italy, staying overnight at a friend’s house in London. That meant it was just me and Fearne for the weekend—we had the whole house to ourselves!
We made the most of it by balancing fun, creativity, relaxation, and productivity. From breakfast in bed and decorating for Easter to deep breathing sessions and tackling important tasks, it was a weekend of connection, peace, and accomplishment.
Starting the Weekend Right: Breakfast in Bed & A New Routine
With the house to ourselves, we decided to start the weekend with a little indulgence—breakfast in bed. While Fearne enjoyed watching YouTube videos on her tablet, I took the opportunity to refine my routine and record it on my laptop.
Lately, I’ve been making a conscious effort to structure my days so that I’m not just working all the time. It’s easy to fall into the trap of being constantly busy, but I want to ensure that my routine allows time for:
✅ Work and responsibilities
✅ Quality time with my family
✅ Personal projects and self-care
✅ Wim Hof breathing and cold exposure
After much thought, I settled on a plan:
📅 Wake up at 6:00 AM
🌙 Go to bed at 11:00 PM
🕰️ Plenty of time for work, family, and personal growth
I’m feeling incredibly optimistic about this schedule and excited to see how well it works over the coming weeks.
Deep Breathing & Cold Exposure: A New Level of Calm
While Fearne was at dance class for a couple of hours, I took the opportunity to do something I’ve been committed to lately—Wim Hof deep breathing and cold exposure.
I completed eight rounds of deep breathing, followed by a two-minute cold shower. And let me tell you—it was incredible.
For hours afterward, I felt:
✔️ Calm and at peace
✔️ Energized but relaxed
✔️ Completely free from itchy skin
This was one of the best sessions I’ve had so far, and it’s a clear sign that this practice is having a real impact on my body and mind.
After feeling so refreshed and clear-headed, I picked Fearne up from dance, and we headed home for lunch.
Easter Comes Early: Decorating the House
After lunch, Fearne had a big idea—she wanted to start decorating the house for Easter.
I explained that it was still a little early, but she was adamant that we should start. And honestly, I love her enthusiasm, so I went along with it.
We spent a couple of hours:
🎨 Planning our Easter decorations
📝 Making lists of decorations to buy and ones to create
🛍️ Heading to a local home store to pick up some supplies
Once we got back, Fearne was in full creative mode. She carefully planned where each decoration would go and even started making her own handmade Easter crafts.
Watching her creativity shine was wonderful, and I jumped in to help draw, colour, and decorate alongside her.
At times, though, she was so focused and independent that I took the opportunity to tackle a few of my own tasks—one of which was reviewing our home insurance policy.
Saving Money & Overcoming My Least Favourite Task
Our home and car insurance is up for renewal at the end of the month, so I decided to shop around for a better deal.
It looks like I can save several hundred pounds by negotiating, but there’s one small catch—I need to call the insurance company to discuss my options.
I hate talking to salespeople, but in this case, it’s worth it. A short conversation could result in significant savings, and that’s motivation enough to push through the discomfort.
It’s just one of those necessary tasks in life, and I’ll be making the call next week.
Saturday Night Traditions: Gladiators, Ice Cream & Laughter
With our creative projects done, it was time to wind down for the evening with our Saturday night ritual:
📺 Watching Gladiators on BBC iPlayer
😂 Bingeing nonsensical TV on catch-up and Netflix
🍦 Enjoying ice cream, dancing, and just having fun
Fearne was absolutely exhausted by 9:00 PM. I took her upstairs, and we lay in bed together until she drifted off to sleep.
After she was asleep, I took the time to:
✅ Catch up on emails so I could start the next week fresh
✅ Do another deep breathing session
✅ Take a hot bath and shave—a small act of self-care that always makes me feel more put-together and confident
I went to bed feeling proud of everything we had accomplished during the day—quality time, productivity, relaxation, and self-care all in one.
Final Thoughts: A Perfectly Balanced Saturday
This day was exactly what I needed—a reminder that life isn’t just about work and responsibilities.
It’s about:
💡 Spending time with loved ones
🎨 Exploring creativity
🛀 Taking care of yourself
📅 Staying on top of important tasks
I’m grateful for Fearne’s enthusiasm, my own commitment to self-improvement, and the simple joys of a quiet weekend at home.
