"I embrace each day with energy, curiosity, and balance, making time for both productivity and relaxation."
Hello all.
Gratitude for a Balanced Day
A good night's sleep always sets the tone for a great day. With nearly eight hours of rest, I woke up feeling refreshed, ready to take on the morning. While I did forget my cold shower, my day was still packed with meaningful tasks, problem-solving, and quality time with family.
There’s something deeply satisfying about balancing work, personal projects, relaxation, and connection with loved ones. From fixing a sluggish gaming PC to watching the England rugby match and Gladiators, the day flowed naturally—and I made every moment count.
Starting the Morning with Focus and Responsibility
I jumped out of bed, ready to embrace the day. My morning breathing exercises were the first step in getting my mind and body aligned for what lay ahead. Deep, intentional breathing helps me maintain focus, reduce stress, and prepare for the demands of the day.
Though I missed my usual cold shower, my attention was on helping Fearne and Aurora get ready for their early dance lesson. Mornings with kids are always busy, but being able to assist and ensure they started their day right was worth the shift in my routine.
Even with the bustle of the morning, I stuck to my habit of getting the house in order:
✔ Emptying the bins
✔ Tidying the kitchen
✔ Washing clothes
✔ Cleaning the surfaces
It’s a simple ritual, but keeping things tidy gives me a sense of calm and control over my space.
Diagnosing and Fixing a Sluggish Gaming PC
While Juli and the kids were at dance, I had a tech project to tackle—a gaming PC that was running painfully slow and refusing to upgrade to Windows 11.
Right away, I suspected a combination of software clutter and potential hardware issues. The first step? Giving it a thorough clean. It had built-up dust and dirt on the components, which I carefully removed until the PC tower looked pristine again.
With the hardware looking fresh, I shifted my focus to the software issues. A quick check revealed an overloaded system:
- Four antivirus programs
- Three malware scanners
- Five web browsers
- Numerous conflicting applications
That was definitely part of the problem. I used my judgment to uninstall unnecessary programs, clean up start-up applications, and free up resources. If the owner needed a program, they could manually open it, rather than letting it run constantly in the background.
After optimizing the system, I attempted to install Windows 11 again—only to have it fail due to an outdated graphics driver. This led me to spend some extra time upgrading the firmware on the graphics card before trying the installation again.
This time? Success! 🎉
Once Windows 11 was fully installed, I configured the system for optimal performance before notifying the owner that their PC was ready for collection.
Within the hour, they had picked it up, and later in the day, I received a message of appreciation—they were delighted with how smoothly their computer was now running.
That’s the best part of fixing technology—knowing that I’ve solved a frustrating problem for someone and helped them get back to what they love doing.
Personal Time: Meditation and Self-Care
After finishing the PC repair, I carved out some personal time for myself.
✔ Had a shave – because a little grooming always makes me feel refreshed.
✔ Meditation – taking a moment to centre myself, breathe deeply, and let go of stress.
Meditation is one of those practices that quietly transforms your mindset. It helps me reset, find clarity, and move forward with renewed energy.
Watching the England Rugby Match & Gladiators
The afternoon was about family time. We sat down together to watch the England rugby match, cheering them on and enjoying the thrill of the game.
After that, it was time for something even more exciting—mine and Fearne’s favourite show, Gladiators! 🏋️♂️⚡ There’s something so nostalgic and exhilarating about Gladiators. It’s a fantastic mix of athleticism, competition, and entertainment—and watching it together makes it even better.
Movie Night: The Electric State vs. Ready Player One
Later in the evening, we decided to watch a movie on Netflix—The Electric State. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The pacing was slow, and the story felt disjointed and uninspired.
Only the final five minutes of the film carried any real impact, with the main character delivering a powerful message about taking breaks from technology and living in the moment.
While I appreciated the sentiment, I couldn’t help but compare it to Ready Player One, which explores a similar theme but in a far more engaging and well-executed way. Spielberg definitely did it better!
Ending the Night with Match of the Day and Breathing Exercises
As the house quieted down, everyone headed off to bed, leaving me with the perfect wind-down routine—watching Match of the Day while doing more breathing exercises.
There’s something deeply relaxing about focusing on my breath while watching the highlights of the day’s football matches. It’s a great way to unwind, clear my mind, and prepare for sleep.
By midnight, I was in bed, feeling content and grateful for a day that was both productive and fulfilling.
Gratitude for the Day
Reflecting on today, I’m grateful for:
✔ Getting nearly eight hours of sleep, setting a positive tone for the day.
✔ Fixing a gaming PC, helping someone enjoy their tech without frustration.
✔ Spending quality time with family, sharing in our love for rugby and Gladiators.
✔ Prioritizing self-care, making time for meditation and relaxation.
✔ Ending the day with football and breathing exercises, a perfect way to wind down.
