Monday 10th March 2025 - Balancing Responsibilities: A Day of Work, Family, and Content Creation

"Even on the busiest days, I remain grounded, adaptable, and grateful. Challenges are opportunities, and I embrace them with confidence."

Hello all.

Some days feel like a perfectly structured plan coming together, while others feel like you’re being pulled in three different directions at once. Today was definitely the latter.

With Juli exhausted from driving back late from London, I found myself juggling multiple commitments, including work, family responsibilities, and content creation. Despite the hectic nature of the day, I stayed grounded, kept my positive habits intact, and somehow managed to complete everything on my to-do list.

Starting the Day with Purpose

Even on days when I know things will be chaotic, I make it a point to start with my non-negotiables:

✔️ Wim Hof deep breathing
✔️ Cold shower

These two habits have become a cornerstone of my routine, providing a sense of clarity and resilience before stepping into the demands of the day. No matter how unpredictable the day ahead is, starting it the right way sets the tone for everything that follows.

With that done, I focused on getting the house in order and making sure Fearne was ready for school. Once she was dressed and prepared, I dropped her off and immediately shifted gears into the next task of the day.

The Stations of the Cross Project: A Meaningful Start to Lent

After dropping Fearne off, I drove straight to work, opting to take the car today instead of cycling. This was because it was the first day of our Stations of the Cross project, and I only had a 30-minute window to contribute before heading off to my next responsibility.

The project is a beautiful part of our Lenten celebrations, allowing the school community to come together and reflect on faith, devotion, and creativity. I was able to help with the first stage of our station creation, and even though I had to leave 10 minutes early, it felt good to contribute.

Unfortunately, my schedule was packed, and I had another important responsibility waiting for me—taking my mum to her hospital appointment.

Supporting Mum’s Recovery

My mum is currently recovering from knee surgery, and today was another hospital visit to change her dressings. It meant missing the rest of the morning at work, but family comes first, and I was more than happy to be there for her.

The best news? Her recovery is going incredibly well! She’s been dedicated to her exercises, and it’s paying off. Seeing her put in the effort to regain her mobility makes me so proud—her determination is inspiring.

After ensuring she was comfortable and settled at home, I returned to work just in time for lunch and was immediately hit with another unexpected change to my schedule.

An Afternoon of Last-Minute Adjustments

As soon as I walked in, I was told that I would be teaching Year 2 in the afternoon. The only problem?

📌 It wasn’t a computing lesson
📌 There wasn’t enough time to plan a lesson properly

Thankfully, a colleague stepped in and took over with a maths and English lesson, allowing me to refocus on my core responsibilities for the day. It’s always great to have a team you can rely on, especially when things don’t go as expected.

The rest of the afternoon was spent catching up on admin tasks, including:

📧 Resetting two email accounts
📜 Sending a series of emails to early career teachers regarding name changes
🖥️ Sorting out a computing lesson for Year 5 involving Crumble coding

The Year 5 coding lesson didn’t go quite as smoothly as I had hoped—a recent software update had caused some issues, meaning some of the code we had planned to use was no longer correct. However, I took the opportunity to go through the new resources, understand what needed to be changed, and ensure that going forward, we wouldn’t face the same problem again.

The last part of my workday was spent organizing schedules, catching up on emails, and putting away computing equipment before finally leaving at 5 PM—somehow having completed everything on my to-do list for the day.

An Evening of Gratitude and Productivity

After such a non-stop day, I was beyond grateful to come home and see that Juli had prepared dinner early. It was exactly what I needed after the long hours, and it reminded me of how important small acts of kindness can be in making a difference.

After eating, I took a little time to unwind by catching up on football highlights from the night before, but my day wasn’t over yet. I still had work to do—this time, for my own projects.

🖥️ I retreated to my office and focused on content creation for my websites:

TownHost: I wrote an article on how to create a WordPress website in 30 minutes—a beginner-friendly guide to help people set up their own sites quickly and efficiently.
The Home Harmony Project: I wrote an article on the importance of a monthly cleaning schedule and how it helps people clean often-overlooked areas like light switches, washing machines, and ovens.

I firmly believe that staying organized and keeping a schedule allows people to free up time for what truly matters.

Once my content was completed, I wound down by watching a new chess program on BBC iPlayer before finally catching up on my blog posts for the past few days.

Reflections on a Hectic Yet Fulfilling Day

Today was the definition of being stretched thin, but it all worked out in the end.

✔️ I kept up with my morning routine despite the chaos
✔️ Contributed to an important school project
✔️ Supported my mum’s recovery
✔️ Handled unexpected work responsibilities with flexibility
✔️ Still found time for personal projects in the evening

Was it an easy day? No.
Did I get everything done? Miraculously, yes.

And for that, I am grateful.

Despite the non-stop nature of the day, I still managed to stay on top of everything. Some days are more structured, and others feel more chaotic, but as long as I continue my positive habits, embrace flexibility, and remain grateful, I know I’m moving in the right direction.

Here’s to more days of resilience, productivity, and gratitude. 😊

Gratitude for Today

Mum’s successful recovery progress
