“I honour my energy by focusing on what matters most, creating space for growth and balance.”
Hello all.
Gratitude is at the core of my approach to each day, and I must say, starting with the most important task has truly been transformative. Today was another testament to how much this habit has paid off.
I arrived at work determined to set up GL Assessments for every child from Year 3 upwards, ensuring everything was ready for next week. The process involved exporting data, verifying its accuracy, importing it into another system, and configuring all the tests. Printing and distributing the login details to the respective classes completed the task. It took about an hour, but the satisfaction of crossing it off my to-do list made it entirely worthwhile.
With that major task accomplished, the remainder of my day flowed seamlessly. Apart from handling a few emails, I focused entirely on the Teaching School Hub database. It’s really taking shape! I designed the database schema, set up all the necessary tables, built dashboards tailored to different users (Headteachers, Induction Tutors, etc.), and added some clean, professional CSS styling. A full day of productivity with minimal distractions – it felt amazing. The only interruption was dropping off iPads to our Year 1 class in the afternoon, which I was happy to do.
On my way home, I finally posted the parcel I had forgotten yesterday. The relentless stormy weather made me grateful to get home safely and see that everyone was okay. However, the mental energy I spent on database development hit me as soon as I stepped through the door, and motivation to tackle anything else evaporated.
The evening was one of rest and recharge. Someone dropped of a iMac that needing the Operating System restoring. I sorted this out while I watched some thought-provoking documentaries on Netflix while Fearne entertained herself on her tablet, and Juli tidied the dining room/sewing space for her next project. The iMac was collected a couple of hours later, working perfectly. While I didn’t get to practice my Freemasons work today, I know I’ll have plenty of time to make up for it over the weekend.
Ending the day with a soothing bath at 9:30 PM, I felt myself unwinding fully. After helping Fearne to bed, I followed shortly after at 11 PM, ready to embrace tomorrow with a clear mind and focused energy.
