"Each moment of effort today sets the stage for greater achievements tomorrow."
Hello all.
What an incredible day! My role at work was full of variety and excitement, as I stepped into the role of teacher once again due to staff absence.
The morning started in our Year 4 class, where I introduced the concept of repeated loops in programming. Watching the students use code to draw shapes on a computer was so rewarding. Right after the morning break, I moved into our Year 5 class to teach them about scaling images and working with layers—a creative and engaging topic they really enjoyed.
In the afternoon, I combined my refereeing skills with teaching to run a PE session for Year 4 and Year 5. Coordinating three football matches simultaneously was challenging, but the students had a blast, and it was great to see their teamwork and enthusiasm shine through.
Even after a full day of teaching, my work wasn’t done. There were still plenty of admin tasks waiting for me. I replaced the bulb in our Year 2 classroom’s projector, gathered evidence of programming lessons involving a robot for the Year 2 students, and caught up on emails to stay on top of everything.
While all this was happening, a BT engineer visited the school to install a new fibre optic line. Although I couldn’t oversee the installation directly due to teaching commitments, the team assured me everything went smoothly.
Once I got home, I dove back into my presentation and script for the upcoming Durham County Referees Association meeting in February. It’s exciting to see this project coming together. Afterward, I treated myself to some downtime, watching snooker on BBC Four—a relaxing way to unwind after a productive day.
When the house quieted down and everyone went to bed, I stayed up late to enjoy a well-deserved bath and shave. This small act of self-care helped me relax and feel ready for tomorrow’s football matches. It’s amazing what a little time to yourself can do to recharge.
