I am capable, organized, and grateful for the opportunities to balance my passions and responsibilities with grace and joy.
Hello all.
Today was a day where my many roles had to harmonize perfectly to keep everything on track. Balancing my responsibilities as a school admin, a football referee, and a family man required planning and focus, but I approached it with gratitude for the opportunities each role brings.
After yesterday’s well-received school discos, our Headteacher graciously allowed me to take the afternoon off to referee a football match. I spent the morning at work organizing a couple of online meetings, completing admin tasks, and setting things up to ensure everything ran smoothly in my absence.
By midday, I was on my way to Durham for an incredible match: the Women’s U21 FA Plate Quarter Final between Durham Cestria Reserves and Tottenham Hotspur U21 Women. It was an honor to referee such an exciting game, especially with the support of experienced Assistant Referees.
The match itself was exhilarating. Durham scored within six minutes, only for Tottenham to equalize three minutes later. What followed was a fiercely contested battle, with both teams neutralizing each other until extra time. Halfway through the second period, Durham’s striker made a stunning shot into the corner. I had a clear view of the ball crossing the line, and my assistant confirmed the goal—sealing a 2-1 victory for Durham. The game was played with great sportsmanship, and I was grateful to be part of it.
After thanking the teams and my assistants, I headed back to Hartlepool just in time to pick up Fearne from her after-school club. It’s not often that I get the chance to pick her up, and seeing her in her element was a special treat.
Our day wasn’t over yet, though. In the evening, we attended my school’s Family Gathering—a cherished annual tradition where staff can bring their loved ones to see where we dedicate so much of our time. It’s our Headteacher’s heartfelt way of saying thank you for our hard work throughout the year. Fearne and Juli joined me, and we spent a wonderful evening chatting with colleagues, exploring the school, and sharing stories of the projects I’ve contributed to over the past year.
Finally, we returned home, tired but fulfilled. We relaxed in the living room, unwinding in front of the TV after a packed day filled with productivity, passion, and connection.
As I reflect on the day, I am grateful for the balance I’ve been able to strike between work, my personal passions, and family. Each moment is a reminder of how rewarding life can be when approached with purpose and gratitude.
