Thursday 19th December 2024 - Gratitude in Troubleshooting, Celebrations, and Creativity

I am resourceful, patient, and grateful for the opportunities to solve challenges, create joy, and nurture my passions.

Hello all.

The Christmas celebrations continued at work today, bringing with them both festive joy and the usual tasks of setting up and packing things away. But before I could get started, a challenge arose at home.

Our tumble dryer decided to give up, beeping three times every time we tried to switch it on and refusing to start. The dryer plays such a crucial role in keeping our home running smoothly, so I took immediate action. I cleaned the filters, checked for damage, and tried every troubleshooting trick I could think of, but nothing worked. Reluctantly, I called work to explain the situation and braced myself for the torture that is customer service calls.

After five phone calls, a lot of waiting, and an hour of persistence, I managed to book an engineer to visit tomorrow. Thankfully, Juli will be working from home and can let the engineer in. While it wasn’t the smoothest start to the day, I was grateful to have a solution in place.

Once the dryer issue was sorted, I headed to work, ready for a day full of tasks. Tonight was the School Carol Service, a cherished annual tradition, so I knew it would be a late evening. In the meantime, I worked on putting away costumes from the Christmas production, managed the school’s social media to keep parents updated, and coordinated laptop bookings for Year 4’s coding and research activities.

The late afternoon was dedicated to setting up for the Carol Service. At our school, we have a unique setup where the carol lyrics are projected in reverse onto windows using a dual projector system. We tape tracing paper onto the windows to act as a screen, allowing everyone to stand outside with candles and sing carols in a magical atmosphere.

Setting this up is no small feat—it requires lining up the tracing paper perfectly, connecting and positioning the projectors, safely tucking away wires, and arranging the piano for our music teacher. Despite the effort, the result is always worth it.

By 5 PM, everything was ready. Families began arriving, warmed by cups of delicious soup made by our Headteacher and staff. My favourite is the leek and potato soup, and it was a hit with everyone. Around 50 people gathered to sing, filling the evening with warmth and Christmas spirit.

I stayed to enjoy the singing, soaking in the festive joy before packing away all the equipment. While I arrived home late, my heart was full, and I was grateful for the experience.

As we wound down for the evening, my family and I enjoyed a quiet moment together in the living room. Once everyone had gone to bed, I stayed up a little longer to work on a personal project: an Automated Market Analysis System. While challenging, it’s a passion project I’ve wanted to tackle for some time, and I made promising progress.

Today was a reminder of the beauty in balancing life’s challenges and joys. From troubleshooting at home to celebrating the season at work and embracing my creative endeavours, I am filled with gratitude for every moment.
