Wednesday 6th November 2024 - Adapting, Problem-Solving, and Reflecting

Today was a whirlwind, filled with challenges, quick thinking, and rewarding moments. At work, the Year 4 class was scheduled to learn image cropping, but the teacher’s presentation focused on the wrong app—one we didn’t have a license for. We had to quickly pivot, creating a new PowerPoint and re-planning the lesson using the correct app. Despite the rushed preparation, the lesson went exceptionally well. I couldn’t be more proud of both the teacher and the students for their adaptability and engagement. Great job, everyone, for pulling off a fantastic lesson!

Another task for the day was updating a behavior concern report for Nursery. The outdated version included old logos and inaccurate information, so I modernized it to make it more accessible and manageable moving forward.

On a personal note, I made significant progress on a project that has been close to my heart. A former staff member, now living in Cyprus, had left behind several hard drives and memory cards containing cherished memories. After a lot of effort recovering the data and sourcing the right tools, I successfully assembled a portable hard drive. It’s now packed with photos, videos, music, and mementos from their time in Hartlepool and will soon make its way back to them in Cyprus. Knowing they’ll be reunited with their memories is a deeply fulfilling accomplishment.

Hello all,

The day wasn’t without its chaos. We had a group of Durham University students visiting the school to gain teaching experience. This required me to set up makeshift classrooms in spaces not usually used for teaching. I spent much of the day organizing projectors and screens, ensuring these “pop-up” classrooms were functional and welcoming. It was hectic but rewarding to see everything come together for their learning experience.

After a busy day, I finally settled down at home. We watched Ludwig on BBC iPlayer and then The Repair Shop. Both were the perfect way to unwind. Of course, I had more articles to write for the Home Harmony Project, so I stayed up late again working on them. These guides are turning out to be quite the endeavor, but I know they’ll be worth it in the long run.

I also ordered bike lights for my bicycle—an absolute necessity now that the evenings are getting darker. Following yesterday’s Freemasons charity meeting, I submitted a funding application for a local church to the Durham Freemasons. Fingers crossed it gets approved; it would be wonderful to support their important work.

Though the day was packed, it left me with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. It’s amazing what we can achieve, even amid the chaos, with a little perseverance and a lot of heart.
