Thursday 21st November 2024 - A Busy Day of Problem-Solving and New Beginnings

 Hello all,

Today started with my usual routine of taking Fearne to school. She was especially excited because her dance teacher would be picking her up later for her ballet exam—a big moment for her, and I couldn’t help but feel proud.

At work, the day was anything but ordinary. I began by helping out our school cook with her car key, which was in pieces due to a broken case. After swapping the electronics and battery into a new case, the key worked like new. Small fixes like this remind me how even the simplest gestures can make a big difference in someone's day.

Later, I tackled an issue with a suspicious email. At first glance, it seemed like spam, but it turned out to be an automatic renewal for a school safety training service we no longer need, as our Trust now oversees this. I’m hoping it can be canceled—sometimes even technology makes life complicated.

One of the highlights of my day was designing a Santa letter for the nursery kids. Seeing the images of Santa and the reindeer come to life on the page was rewarding, and I can only imagine the joy the children will feel as they write their letters. It’s these creative moments that make the busy days feel worthwhile.

Around lunchtime, I had just 15 minutes to set up an ITT meeting. Between moving tables and chairs, setting up the laptop and projector, and managing an online Teams connection for remote attendees, it was absolute chaos—but somehow, I pulled it off.

The afternoon brought a challenge: some of the school doors weren’t closing properly. A false fire alarm from the night before had disrupted the system. After a couple of hours of troubleshooting, we finally got everything back to normal.

I also set up a new iPad for the Teaching School Hub to help with event photos and cloud access—a small but useful upgrade that should make things smoother for the team.

The highlight of my evening was seeing Juli again after her trip to Scotland. I picked her up after wrapping up my workday, which included setting up for a morning assembly. It was great to have her back—it always feels like something’s missing when she’s away.

The day didn’t end there, though. I drove to Bishop Auckland for my first meeting as Secretary for the Durham County Referees Association. Connecting with local associations and discussing ideas to bring in more members and inspire future referees felt like a strong first step in rebuilding our network. It’s a role I’m honored to take on, and I left feeling optimistic about the road ahead.

Today was a whirlwind, but I ended it with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. Whether it was fixing a car key, supporting the school, or taking steps to build something bigger for our referees, it reminded me how much can be achieved in a day with determination and purpose.
