Hello all.
Today started with admiration for Juli’s strength. Despite being clearly unwell, she put on a brave face and went to work, determined not to let her flu slow her down. While I still wish she would take more time to rest, I respect her resilience and ability to carry on. It’s in my nature to support, not to stop, so I simply ensured she had everything she needed and hoped for her well-being.
This morning marked my return to cycling after a week off due to poor weather and work obligations. The ride felt incredible—a refreshing change from driving—and to top it off, I managed to avoid the rain entirely. There's something so invigorating about being back on the bike, and I felt grateful for the chance to cycle both ways in dry weather.
Work today was all about IT repairs and, as always, there’s a sense of gratitude in being able to fix things and bring them back to life. First up was a nursery staff member's laptop that had lost its connection to the school domain. After reinstalling the operating system and reconnecting it to the Active Directory, it was back up and running in no time. Though the fix was straightforward, the satisfaction of seeing technology work seamlessly again never gets old.
Next, I tackled an HP All-In-One PC that needed repurposing for a different department. Preparing it with Windows 11, setting up Microsoft Office, and getting the printer connected all went smoothly. The process was simple, yet it was another small victory, making something old useful again.
Later, I worked on transferring Year 1’s English phrase recordings from the iPads to the school network, ensuring they’d be accessible later this week. It felt good to support the teachers and students with their learning journey.
The highlight of my repairs came when I fixed an iPad from another school in our Trust. The smashed digitizer was a delicate job, requiring the heat plate and tweezers to carefully remove the screen. After reassembling it with new connectors, I left it clamped overnight to dry. Hopefully, when I check it tomorrow, it’ll be as good as new.
By the time I cycled home, my energy was still flowing, so I kept my routine going and went for a run. I have to admit I was a little disappointed with how out of breath I felt, especially after refereeing all weekend. But instead of frustration, I feel grateful for the opportunity to gradually rebuild my stamina over the coming weeks.
After my run, I treated myself to a relaxing 20-minute bath, complete with a lit candle. The warmth and quiet helped me unwind, and I felt completely refreshed afterward. Then I took over dinner duty from Juli, since she had panto rehearsals, and dished up a comforting lasagne.
The rest of the evening was simple, but sometimes, simplicity is just what we need. Tired from the run and the mental effort of repairing devices all day, I settled in front of the TV and indulged in YouTube videos about movie facts, Final Fantasy, and the Terminator series. I did have grand plans to clean the kitchen cupboards, but I’m giving myself grace and pushing that task to tomorrow.
Looking back on today, I’m filled with gratitude—for the opportunity to help Juli, for the satisfaction that comes with solving problems at work, and for the moments of peace that punctuated a productive day. There’s always something to be thankful for, even in the little things.
