Tuesday 1st October 2024 - The Dining Room is Functional

Today has been one of those days where I’m reminded of how much joy can be found in both the small and larger tasks of life. As I worked through my day, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to improve not only my environment but also the well-being of others.

I started my day with the first steps of my monthly cleaning routine, giving some much-needed attention to the tumble dryer and washing machine. A simple wipe-down of the tumble dryer with an antibacterial cloth removed the build-up of dirt, leaving it fresh and ready for action. The washing machine, however, required a bit more care. I cleaned the surfaces and then ran a long, hot spin with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to kill any bacteria lurking in the drum. It’s such a satisfying feeling knowing these essential household appliances are clean and functioning efficiently.

At work, my focus shifted to ensuring our recent Appropriate Body briefing was well-received. I spent most of the day contacting schools to check that people had attended the sessions we had organised throughout September. While it might seem like a routine task, I feel grateful to be in a position where I can help ensure the support teachers receive is effective.

A particularly rewarding part of my day involved working with a Year 6 child who needed a Dyslexia Screening Test. It’s always a privilege to help children and ensure they’re given the resources they need. On top of that, I spent a few hours carefully going through four years of payment records for a parent who needed clarification. After combing through the details, I discovered they had overpaid, and I now have the pleasure of refunding them in the coming days. It felt wonderful knowing I could bring some relief to that family.

After work, I took the greyhound for a run, combining my fitness with hers, which was refreshing for both of us. There’s something special about getting outdoors and moving together, especially when it’s good for both body and soul. I followed this with picking up my daughter from her evening dance class, feeling grateful for the opportunity to support her hobbies and witness her joy after dancing.

Back home, with Juli out at her First Aid Training Course, I decided to tackle the dining room—a space that had been crying out for some attention. I rearranged tables and drawers, giving the room a more practical and usable layout. The best part was knowing that this small effort would be a nice surprise for Juli. Now, we can finally eat at the dining table again when she’s not using it for her sewing repairs business. It feels good to create a space that serves us better as a family.

To wrap up the day, I spent a couple of hours before bed focusing on my well-being. A bit of yoga and stretching helped ease the day’s tension, and I followed it with a quick shower. Before heading to bed, I deep-cleaned the kitchen, ready for the morning ahead. There’s something peaceful about ending the day with a clean and organised space, knowing it sets the stage for a smoother tomorrow.

Today’s efforts, both big and small, reminded me of the power of consistency and the beauty of contributing to the well-being of others. Whether through cleaning, supporting a child’s needs, or creating a more functional home, I’m grateful for the chance to make a difference, no matter how simple the task.

Every day offers new opportunities to be of service, to grow, and to express gratitude for all that we can do. And for that, I am deeply thankful.
