Monday 14th October 2024 - The Decluttering at Work and Home Begins

Hello all.

After my footballing adventures yesterday, it was back to work today—and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m lucky to have one of the best jobs in the world!

My day started at 7 AM, as usual, with deep breathing exercises to set the tone. Then, I moved into our still-clean kitchen to prepare lunch for work, grab some breakfast, and get ready for the day ahead. Before leaving, I had just enough time to clean Fearne’s mattress, using baking soda and vinegar to neutralize any bad smells. It felt good to knock that off my to-do list, knowing it would be fresh by the time I got home.

Cycling to work felt invigorating, and I arrived on time, ready for whatever the day had in store. My School IT Technician duties kicked off with some admin work, responding to emails, setting up laptops for classes, and making a few calls to other schools in need of advice. The morning flowed effortlessly, and when lunchtime came around, I felt satisfied knowing I’d handled everything that came my way.

In the afternoon, I completed the repair on the last of the four iPads I’d been working on for another school. It was a relief to check that task off, and with that done, I turned my attention to a few laptops I’d stored away in my office cupboard—ones I had almost forgotten about! They needed converting to ChromeOS Flex and enrolling on the school’s domain. An hour later, I had three laptops ready to go, destined to help our students learn more effectively.

Tidy workspaces are key for me, so I used this opportunity to clean out my office cupboard. I’ve learned to let go of random papers and recycle them when they’re no longer useful. As I left work today, my desk was spotless. I now have the pleasure of working in both a clean home and a clean office—something I deeply appreciate.

When I got home, I vacuumed Fearne’s mattress to finish the cleaning process. Juli had gone shopping, and with fresh groceries in hand, I made us some delicious chicken wraps with honey and peppers. They turned out even better than expected—definitely something we’ll be making again.

The rest of the evening was spent with the family, relaxing and enjoying our usual Monday night quiz shows on BBC2. We took part in Mastermind, Only Connect, and University Challenge, doing our best to answer the questions. We didn’t do too badly either!

To top it off, I started my new decluttering mission. Each day, I plan to put one item we no longer need up for sale. Today, it was a chest of drawers from our dining room that Juli no longer needs for her fabric. After giving it a good clean, I took photos and listed it on Facebook Marketplace. Fingers crossed it finds a new home soon!

And that’s the wrap for today. Until tomorrow!
