Hello all.
I returned to my usual morning routine today, feeling grateful for the structure it brings to my day. Upon arriving at work, my first task was an unexpected one – building a wheelbarrow that had been left in our school library, still boxed up. It wasn’t really part of my job description, but I jumped in to help clear the space. While I was playfully reminded that it wasn’t technically my responsibility, I enjoyed the process, and in the end, we had a properly built wheelbarrow!
Next, I turned my attention to a gaming computer that I’ve been responsible for repairing. I needed to find a replacement motherboard that would be compatible with the existing components – a bit of a challenge, but a satisfying one. Then, I worked on converting an old music teacher’s laptop into a Chromebook using Chrome OS Flex, which will now be used by the children during their IT lessons. It’s always fulfilling to give old tech a new purpose.
Using my newly reinstated admin rights for the school printers, I recovered all the staff members' printer codes and organized them, so everyone can print without issue. I also spent some time cross-checking Appropriate Body information and delivered iPads to the Year 2 class for their session. We found one iPad in a cupboard that wasn’t connected to our network, so I reached out to the Trust IT team to get it sorted. They asked me to bring it over at our next meet-up, so that’s on the to-do list for Friday.
After a productive day, I also organized my football matches for the weekend to make sure I had all the right contact details and addresses in place. Then, a rather interesting email came through from the local parish council requesting help with setting up a gov.uk domain. I took some time to research the process and sent the necessary details to the Clerk – a small but rewarding task.
Coming home, I tackled a household job that had been lingering for months – fixing our inner door, which had been hanging off its hinges. With some longer screws and a bit of patience, I got the door reattached, and now it swings perfectly. It was a small repair, but it felt great to get it done.
The evening ended beautifully with fish and chips for dinner and watching Babylon on Netflix. It was a brilliant love letter to the golden era of Hollywood – just what we needed to unwind after a busy day.
