9th April 2024 - Beds, Exercises and Business Setup

I had to rebuild mine and the missus bed today. For some strange reason all of the slats had fallen out at the bottom half of Juli’s side of the bed. I would like to say I had some say in this, but sadly not! On closer inspection the frame had come away at the bottom end of the bed, leaving just enough space for the slats to wiggle free and fall out.

What happened next was a gruelling game of tug and war between myself and the bed, as I attempted to wrestle a frame back together with one hand while repositioning slats in their slots with the other. 20 minutes of my life gone in a display of composure and balancing, before the final ‘click’ into position of the frame once again as it all came back together. Then I popped the mattress back on, made the bed, and I am pleased to say you would never know it had ever fallen apart in the first place!

My early morning start fixing the bed made me realise I need to start making sure I exercise on a regular basis. I spend way to much time sat down either at my laptop or watching TV, so I need to do something throughout the day in order to make sure my body doesn’t seize up.

Step forward the ‘on the hour core regime’. At the start of every hour I have committed to do a set of press-ups, push-ups, and a plank. I’ll then do some stretches afterwards to make sure my full body feels the benefit.

And so yesterday I did just that. Every hour, between 9am and 5pm, I stepped away from whatever I was doing and do 3 minutes of working out. My body felt great afterwards, and I felt like I was achieving something every hour.

At the weekend I have been appointed to referee a Woman’s Football Match in a local County Cup. We are in the semi-final stages, so it promises to be a good game. As the referee it is my job to make sure the game flows, the laws of the game are followed, and to deal with any situations that arise as and when they happen. I am pushing on with my refereeing career this season, looking to get promoted to higher level games in both the Men’s and Woman’s games. You do this by requesting an assessment of how you manage a game by a Referee Assessor.

With my upcoming game, on paper, expecting to be a decent level of football, I put my request in to be assessed against it. You need 4 assessments to be considered for promotion, along with a few more criteria to meet. I need one more assessment to meet this threshold, so hopefully that will go ahead this weekend and I do a god job.

Up next I had a mess around with the layout of this very blog. I’m very purposefully using Blogger to host this, and having tried a couple of the themes that were available, and realising that my blog looks horrible when using dark blue, I have settled on this current theme you see right now. It’s light, airy, and gives the content space to breathe and be readable.

That was an easy fix to do while I was waiting for some eBay auctions to finish. I mentioned in an earlier post we had all been involved in a good deep clean in the house. We had some board games we hadn’t played in a while still in great condition, so we decided to list them on eBay to see if others would like to buy them. Today the auctions all ended, all were sold, and not only do some new people get to enjoy these games, but we get a little more space in the house and a little bit of cash to go towards something in the future. It was absolutely pouring it down when I took the parcels to the shop to be sent though, and to say I got drenched was an understatement!

Up next was some business admin I needed to do. With this being the re-launch of The Legend of Skippy services, I needed some Finance Software to help me keep an eye on the funds we had available to make all the magic happen. Luckily, the bank I use for my business had recently been in contact to say they had some software, available for free to Business Customers like me, that I could use to help me keep on top of everything admin related to running a business.

I had a quick look at what it did, decided it would be easier to use that rather than building my own bespoke system to do this (a glorified macro-filled spreadsheet), so signed up and started using it. I’ll be able to gauge over the next few weeks whether or not it will be a help or a hindrance. I will keep you posted on that one.

With all my start-up jobs out the way it was time to sit down and do something amazing - write my first script! I mentioned yesterday I am going back to the very beginning of the day, making your bed after you have woken up. I spent a pleasurable couple of hours writing up a script for a 5-minute video I intend to make to explain the method behind my belief in making your bed every day. I’ve typed it, I will have a look at it again in the morning to see if it still sits well with me, and then I will take it from there.

Not bad for my first day right? I got lots done. All I can say is I am happy with what I achieved today, and my muscles ache from doing press-ups!
